POTHOLE PATCH AND
REPAIR IN CANADA

Potholes are caused when moisture penetrates cracks in the asphalt surface of a road,
driveway, or common road in your strata complex.

SAFETY

Large potholes in your driveway could cause tripping, possibly injuring you, visitors or family members.

AESTHETICS

Potholes, cracks and uneven pavement are just plain unsightly.

IT GETS WORSE
WITH NEGLECT

Potholes will get larger and larger each season and when they’re driven over repeatedly.

LEGAL OBLIGATION

The Occupiers Liability Act of Ontario states that persons in physical possession of premises owes a duty to take such care as in all the circumstances of the case is reasonable to see that persons entering on the premises… are reasonably safe while on the premises. Other provinces have similar legal obligations2. You are responsible for the potholes on your property.

POTENTIAL DAMAGE
TO VEHICLES

Cities and townships in the region of Waterloo, Ontario, had an average payout of $4561 per claim caused by pothole damage to vehicles from 2010 to 2013. Now, we hope you aren’t going that fast in your driveway, but imagine what can happen to your cup of coffee after hitting one of those potholes or dips in your asphalt driveway or townhouse road.

I’M NOT A PROFESSIONAL CONTRACTOR. THERE IS NO WAY I CAN PATCH DRIVEWAY POTHOLES ON MY OWN. I DON’T EVEN OWN THE NECESSARY EQUIPMENT!

All you need for the pothole patch process is:

A FEW MINUTES OF YOUR TIME:

WELL I LIVE IN VANCOUVER, BC WHERE IT’S ALWAYS RAINING. I’LL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL SUMMER TO FIX MY DRIVEWAY.

Not with EZ Street. It’s the cold asphalt that works in water. There is no need to wait all winter for the pothole and asphalt to dry. Waiting can actually make the pothole bigger!

I LIVE IN EDMONTON, ALBERTA. ALTHOUGH I CAN SEE WHY I SHOULD PERFORM A POTHOLE PATCH TODAY, I CAN’T BECAUSE OF SNOW AND FREEZING WEATHER.

It’s a good thing you’re getting EZ Street, which has proven itself in harsh Canadian winters. The picture below was taken in the Northwest Territories during an EZ Street Paving project. If EZ Street can handle those conditions as a paving asphalt, it can handle any Canadian pothole.

EZ STREET IS CALLED ‘COLD ASPHALT’, WHAT IS HOT ASPHALT, AND WHY SHOULD I USE A COLD ASPHALT TO PATCH THE POTHOLE ON MY RESIDENCE/PROPERTY?

Hot asphalt needs to be heated to be workable. Due to the high amount of time, equipment and training, it’s not really financially feasible or safe to use hot asphalt to repair potholes in your driveway, unless you’re repaving. Cold asphalt can be applied in normal temperature ranges, and is often used for immediate patching by property owners and municipalities. Cold asphalt has traditionally been used as a temporary solution. EZ Street combines the convenience of cold asphalt, with the durability of hot asphalt.

WELL I DON’T WANT TO HAVE TO BUY A WHOLE BAG TO REPAIR MY DRIVEWAY. IT’S WASTEFUL.

A 22 kg bag will usually be used up by an average to large sized pothole. For example, you’ll need 21 kg of EZ Street for a pothole that has an area of 1600 cm2. If you have leftover material, EZ Street bags are re-sealable and durable. The asphalt itself will store up to a year, and will still be pliable for future needs. If you’re unsure if you’ll need more than one bag,
please see the EZ Street Cold Asphalt Job Calculator.

I LIKE TO DO MY PART TO HELP WITH THE ENVIRONMENT. DOES EZ STREET OFFER A GREEN POTHOLE PATCH?

EZ Street offers a Bioblends product in Canada that utilizes 100% renewable resources, and uses select recycled material. You don’t have to worry about decreased performance either, as the Bioblends works just as well as regular EZ Street.

WHERE IS EZ STREET MADE?

EZ Street purchased in Canada is made in Canada. Some of our producers are in Edmonton, Saskatoon and New Westminster, BC.

I SAW EZ STREET AT MY LOCAL EMCO, WHY DOES IT COST MORE THAN THE OTHER COLD ASPHALTS?

Due to the increased quality control and material costs, EZ Street has a higher initial price point than traditional cold patch material. But with EZ Street, you not only get the easy application benefits outlined before, but you receive a permanent pothole patching solution. Regular cold asphalt has a failure rate of 70%, so sometimes potholes will need to be repaired 2 or 3 times with traditional asphalt! Although you’ll spend more upfront than traditional products, you’ll save more in time, repurchased product, increased convenience, and importantly, permanency in patching your road or driveway pothole.
